Language Futures 2015 at the University of Salford

Salford_298x168At Louise Killeen Translations Limited, we’re huge supporters of quality translator training and the academic institutions that provide it. Following two successful careers events at the University of Manchester, this time round it was University of Salford alumni Louise Killeen and Roddy Norris who returned to their old postgraduate stomping ground to encourage the current undergraduate cohort to explore the wide range of career options that a degree in modern languages provides.

The panel was made up of representatives from a number of language-related industries: from public service interpreting, teaching, through to the exciting, fast-paced world of international sales and marketing. LKT was there representing the translation sector, with Louise shedding light on what she looks for in graduates as an entrepreneur and potential employer, and Roddy dispensing handy tips and advice about how to go about getting a job in the industry.

Needless to say, the students at the event were keen to ask as many questions as possible within the allotted time period and the duo from LKT were all too happy to help however they could. With a number of business cards exchanged, potential new recruits lined up, as well as the promise of upcoming careers events and projects with the university, we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

We’d like to thank the University of Salford Careers Service and the School of Humanities, Languages & Social Sciences for organising the event – we’re looking forward to the next one!
